Hand Embroidered Neck Tie
I have fallen in love with hand embroidery! What a fun way to spice up a men's work shirt, jacket or vintage tie!! I love the patterns on retro men's ties, but had not found a project that allowed me to use them... until now!! I take old neckties and add a little flava by hand embroidered fun images. So far I have tried a robot, a map of Oregon (my favorite state), a gnome and a sugar skull. I ask my husband for his opinion on each design since he is a guy and lets me know honestly whether he thinks a guy would wear one or not. (Apparently a sock monkey would not be manly enough, unless he was holding a beer... Who knew!)

Hmm, yeah, I could see the beer adding a certain masculinity to the sock monkey...But, really, the gnome stands alone? Curious. I always thought they were slightly feminine despite their beards.
I want to move in with you and learn all things sewing related. Can you please offer a camp! I'll bring the babysitters! And the sewing machine that breaks its needles every single time I say hello to it (nicely even with no sarcasm!). Oh, and the curtains I've been trying to make for Alex's room...
Just happened upon your blog. I made my first man's silk tie, a seven fold using a vintage Vogue pattern and the David Page Coffin article from Thread's issue 27. Great directions for lining the tips! For the small amount of machine stitching, I used a Schmetz #70 needle with great results. Vogue fabrics is one of my favorite 'local' shops (I consider 2 hours away local when fabric is involved!)
